Many moons ago, I dreamed up a plan to ask all the presidential candidates to tell me what their favorite music was.



Now, I am not being serious when I say you should vote for someone who likes the same music as you.  Granted, there have been worse people reasons people have voted than "He's a fan of the band Tool", "I like Neo-Soul, too", or "This candidate really appreciates classical music".

My goal is really to celebrate our similarities as Americans, not our differences, and on occasion, it may be a candidate that you are not familiar with, but you might really like.

There is (as everyone knows) a Democratic primary.  What gets less attention is that there is also a Republican primary.  While Trump seemingly has large support from his base, there are challengers. If you look online, there are dozens of Presidential candidates, of course, but by my count, there are really only seven serious candidates who are running credible campaigns to challenge Trump, and today, I am featuring one of them- Robert Ardini. Ardini is an award-winning Advertising Executive, Business Owner and Publisher who made news when he ran in the New York House district that Donald Trump is from.  Running as a Republican in a very heavily Democratic district, he still garnered 50,000 votes (Interestingly, he did twice as good as Trump did there).  Ardini wrote a book Running for Congress in Trump's Backyard, which looks like an insightful look into what it must be like to run in New York politics. So You Wanna Be a Rock N Roll Star (Part 1)

While I have been down this rabbit hole of music, I have discovered this crop of candidates have strong musical ties. Hey, I know, this isn't serious stuff, but that was never my intent, and if you really want to find it, go back through my blog, and you will find some very insightful content, too. You may have heard this four years ago, but Bernie Sanders released an album. We Shall Overcome was released in 1987 and is a collection of spoken word and folk music. The cassette (well, it was  1987) sold maybe 800 copies at the time.  It was re-released in 2014 as a CD and Digital Download and even got Bernie to the fringes of the Billboard New Artist chart in 2016. It's not much, but I think it beats Tim Ryan 's Spotify career (which largely falls under the threshold of 1000 listeners). Musical talent? If you have been following my blog, you know I am the guy who asks the Presidential candidates “What are you listening to?” You also know no one answers. I am generally ignored. These candidates don’t have a problem asking for a donation from me, so I know they got my request, but still, I get no response. I won’t jump to the conclusion that they are too self-important or arrogant to answer me. Maybe they’re just inefficient or lazy. Of the 25 candidates deemed “Major” by the media, only Admiral Sestak answered me. Now, I know what you are thinking. That this is because these guys and gals are so busy, but here’s the thing : I asked the same of a dozen Libertarian, Independent and minor Democratic candidates and I got the same thing. Nothing. You know who didn’t ignore me? Dan Taxation is Theft Behrman.
