#VoteYerMusic- Robby Wells

Per the wikipedia article on the 2020 Primaries, there are 19 Democrats who are running for President and are on at least one State Ballot.

Today's post features one of those- Robby Wells.

Wells is a name recognizable in Election circles. In 2012, he ran for the nomination of the Constitution Party, and 2016 as an Independent in the General Election. For 2020, he has ramped up his campaign.

He was actually the first Democrat to announce his candidacy, announcing even before John Delaney. He will be on the ballot for the early primaries (New Hampshire, South Carolina, Colorado, California, Texas).

He was at the Jim Clyburn Fish Fry in June (where the Washington Post reported "Robby Wells who has appeared at some state party functions, was given the same time onstage as Biden, Sanders and the rest" and as part of The University of South Carolina's Presidential Town Hall series (appearing the same weekend as Bill DiBlasio, Julian Castro, and Pete Buttigieg), and he has had one of the most active campaigns of any of the candidates in his home state of South Carolina.

As a reminder, in Iowa, with the caucus, there are no ballots or process for "getting on" the ballot. Iowans are free to caucus and put up any person for candidate that they wish. I am not familiar with the Nevada Caucus, but would assume the same, so Wells will be well positioned for the early states.

Robby visited Iowa in 2015 and his trip was the headline story in the May 27, 2015 edition of the Keota Eagle Prior to politics, Wells was a college football coach. He was head coach at Savannah State, and prior to that, had coaching and managerial experience at South Carolina, South Carolina State, Benedict College and in the American Indoor Football League. He also served in the Army National Guard. You can read more about his life and accomplishments at his site RiseUpWithRobby.Com

He calls his economical plan Eaglenomics as a combination of the best of both Democrat and Republican ideas. In a race, where there is a dearth of Southern candidates (Wayne Messam has dropped out) and Red State candidates (Steve Bullock has suspended his campaign). Of note, the media has noticed that Robby is the only Pro-Life Democrat in the race.

In a detailed story by The Washington Times that mentions Wells- it is mentioned that there aren't many high profile Pro-Life Dems at all- Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards , US Senator from West Virginia Joe Manchin, US Senator from Pennsylvania Robert Casey Jr, and US Representative Daniel Lipinski from Illinois are about the extent of the list. I have been reading a lot about William Jennings Bryan and have been thinking outloud if a Social Conservative/Economic Liberal could exist in the 21st Century. Bryan defined the Democratic Party, but I doubt he would be welcome. Perhaps, a religious leader like Jesse Jackson in the 1980s, or Southern Democrats like Al Gore or Jimmy Carter (who, incidentally, Wells’s father worked for) would fit that category. Pope Francis would surely fit that description, but he does not fit into the two-party dichotomy.

While the Republicans seem to define themselves by the issue, you are more likely to find a Pro-Choice Republican (Pataki, Giulani, Weld, Collins), while Democrats seemingly are defined by the November comments of Elizabeth Warren, and her seeming feud with Bel Edwards.

Getting back to the issue at hand, I had reached out to Robby and asked him my favorite question "What music do you listen to?" I appreciate him taking the time to answer the question.

I listen to all types of music. I love gospel, country, pop, hip hop, rock, r&b, jazz, classical and reggae.

I also asked him to share something about his campaign so I could put it on the website. He replied: As the underdog in the 2020 race, we are proud of the efforts of our volunteers that have continued to push this campaign forward. We have gained ballot access in numerous states, and we plan to gain more states as well.

Thanks once again to Robby Wells for his response.
